David Koma Modernizes Sixties Chic with Bodycon Panels, Cut Outs and Sparkle



Fashion One brings you highlights from the gorgeous David Koma autumn/winter 2015 presentation from London Fashion Week. Enjoy a close up look at the 60s inspired collection as well as our exclusive interview with the designer.

The collection featured belted split leg gowns and body con mini dresses with retro ruffled, flared bell sleeves in black, beige, white and orange. A-line mini skirts had shiny patent hems worn together with form hugging high neck sweaters in addition to mesh mini dresses, jumpsuits and garments with futuristic utility fastenings. Some of the outfits looked like space station secretary uniforms reworked with swinging sixties sex appeal.

Speaking with designer David Koma he talks about his love of the 60s decade but wanting to reference it in a young, fresh way by twisting elements and including more body conscious sculptural pieces. He added new angles and intrigue through the combination of fabrics and details with zip fastenings, peepholes and buckles featured alongside lacework and embroidery.

Another challenge for Koma was to keep things simple and avoid making the look too heavy. It was important for him to use black and leather but he also strived to lighten up the collection by injecting new materials and adding the fresh burst of color. He also explains his choice of embroidery to create the dazzling blue and silver dresses which closed the show with a bold impact of contemporary sparkle.
