The Ladies in Leather and Lace at Givenchy Spring/Summer 2015
Always going for the darkly romantic and sensual, creative director Riccardo Tisci turned a few heads with his Spring/Summer 2015 collection for Givenchy. Leather intertwined with lace, and some leather dresses were tailored as gladiator kilts with rivets lining their paneled edges. Body-conscious designs were also utilized, along with thigh-high leather boots.
A standout look was a bronze tinsel sweater with a pearl-encrusted medallion, black leggings and open-toed knee-high boots. For those who don’t wish to go completely gothic in head-to-toe black, there were white lace skater dresses, peasant blouses and skirts presented as well.
Judging by this catwalk show, waistcoats will definitely be a must-have for spring outerwear, with some decorated with black lace tessellations in addition to the rivets and stiffened leather panels. These are bold and unashamed designs for the elegant and adventurous woman, one whose elegance will stand out even if they are shrouded in black.
In a recent interview with Stylist magazine, Tisci professed his love for dark romance: “Black is always elegant. It is the most complete color in the world, made of all the colors in the palette. [The woman who wears black] is aristocratic, dark, sensual and romantic, but it has been this way since I first started at Givenchy eight years ago. Back then, no one understood. Now you open any magazine and see gothic as a trend.”
