The Male in Motion: Lanvin Paris Menswear Collection Spring/Summer 2015

Founded in 1889 Lanvin, the oldest fashion house still in existence, has a reputation for producing a universe of elegance and refinement. Since its launch in 2006, the menswear line has continued this aesthetic tradition, with Lanvin menswear designed by Lucas Ossendrijver producing sleek elegant pieces which seamlessly blending the wearable with the catwalk for the modern urban male.

For this season Ossendrijver’s inspiration was the very nature of urban existence and the way men navigate it in their daily life. The designer observed the way clothing is now worn is in motion on the subway or on a bicycle, and the way suits have transcended their formal purpose—worn deconstructed or rakish with sleeves rolled up or paired with trainers—and as such his research saw the need for the modern males garments to adapt to how they live and move. His solution was to reconsider classic silhouettes to suit this evolved lifestyle. The Lanvin Paris Menswear Collection Spring/Summer 2015 thus embodies an aesthetic that, while still remaining luxurious, channels an active and trim appearance.

The Lanvin male stalked the catwalk in sharp activewear silhouettes seen through a lavish prism, with an almost unconscious rock ‘n’ roll atmosphere conveyed by the line’s accessories. Unstructured suit jackets were teamed with high-waisted pants and asymmetrical collared, button-up shirts. Technical fabrics and hand-finished embellishments communicated the luxurious level of finishing that Lanvin is renowned for. The strong, sleek forms were invested with drama by a plethora of accessories including silk scarves, belt chains, slim-cut neckties and classic Oxford shoes, with metallic chokers and pins appearing as decorative elements on jackets and leather outer pieces. With the collection, Ossendrijver created a sleek urban solution that, while confronting the active nature of existence, makes no concession to its aesthetics with sophisticated garments firmly rooted in the world of high fashion
