A Boyish Boudoir for Vera Wang Spring/Summer 2015



In her December 2000 InStyle magazine profile, Vera Wang states, “For me, the magic is in weightless clothes, offering enough internal support to allow a woman to feel secure while being totally comfortable. A woman is never sexier than when she is comfortable in her own clothes.”

This ethos is evident in Wang's Spring 2015 collection, which is a show of her classic black ready-to-wear designs with thoughtful cutouts, drapes and necklines. At the show, the program notes offered a dichotomous and pleasantly alliterative description: “Boyish Boudoir, Baby Bohemian.”

This collection is looser than recent ones, with ample amounts of flounce and unpronounced A-line cuts sometimes fitted only with a belt. Maxi dresses are breezy, and exaggerated peplums are modernized with fitted trousers. The menswear-inspired Boyish Boudoir tops are detailed with pleats, sequins, tulle, ruffles and embroidery.

Baby Bohemian, while still glamorous in its own right, seems as if it had less of Wang's attention when being put together. The greyscale used throughout is on-trend, and the only chromatic departures seen here is the peridot brocade and sequined panels on the trapeze dresses.

Overall, a very Vera collection.
